Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (Jan. 11, 2016) – Tony Bruce Jr. has his best opportunity in a midget this week at the 30th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals Presented by General Tire.
Bruce Jr. will drive for Team Eights and owner Chad Wheeler at the premier midget event hosted by Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla. Following practice on Monday, Bruce Jr. is slated to compete in preliminary action on Tuesday before the event concludes on Saturday.
“He’s positive and I’m positive,” Bruce Jr. said. “It’s the best ride I’ll have at the Chili Bowl. I have a brand new car. The team that Chad has put together, giving me a lot of responsibility making sure everything is ready to go and is prepared the right way, this will be the best shot I’ve had at the Chili Bowl.”
The new car was tested once last December when Bruce Jr. invaded the Southern Illinois Center in Du Quoin, Ill., for the inaugural Junior Knepper 55 with the USAC National Midget Series. Bruce Jr. won his heat race, but was caught up in a flip during a qualifier to end the night early.
“We were fortunate enough to make our way to Du Quoin,” he said. “I felt like I could have performed a little better. I got a little greedy and unfortunately got upside down. But I’m really excited going into the Chili Bowl.”
This will be his third year tackling the event, which has a record number of nearly 350 entries.
“We just want to make the prelim night A Main,” he said. “The Chili Bowl takes a lot of luck. You never know what can happen. The goal is to put it in the prelim night A Main and see what happens after that.”
