Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (Sept. 8, 2014) – Tony Bruce Jr. powered to a pair of top fives with the ASCS Midwest Region last weekend.

He opened the Nebraska doubleheader on Saturday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction by maneuvering from fourth to first place on the opening lap of his heat race.

“We were pretty good there in the heat race,” he said. “We were able to go from fourth to first on the start. We had a really good car pretty much all night long.”

The heat race victory advanced Bruce Jr. into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 2 during the random redraw to line up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“I led the first five or six laps,” he said. “I just didn’t find the rubber fast enough. (Jack) Dover found the rubber and was able to drive by us. After that we just followed him around. There was rubber on the bottom of turns three and four. I knew it was going to come. I was around the top for the first few laps and it was one of those disadvantages of leading. Sometimes the track changes and you can’t do anything about it.”

Bruce Jr. finished with a second-place result.

He tackled the Nebraska Cup on Sunday at Eagle Raceway.

“In the heat race the track was real wet and one lane,” he said. “We were able to go from sixth to fourth. That put us one spot out of the redraw.”

Bruce Jr. lined up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

“The track got really wide and it was two grooves, but both of them were pretty fast,” he said. “You had to catch guys at the right time and hope it worked out. I made a few mistakes and it cost us from going further forward.”

Bruce Jr. ended fifth, which marked his 13th top five of the season.

He will return to competition with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Port-A-Cool U.S. Dirt Track Championship.

“We’ve always had some good speed at Texas Motor Speedway,” he said. “It’s a good facility and luckily we get two races there this year. Hopefully this time we can contend for a win.”
