Inside Line Promotions – BILLINGS, Mont. (July 13, 2014) – Tony Bruce Jr. got off to a tough start during his lone trip to Montana this season.

After finishing where he started – third – during his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race on Friday at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Bruce Jr. and his One 8 Motorsports team were forced to change engines prior to the main event.

That made him start on the outside of the eighth row for the main event, which began ominously when Bruce Jr. pulled into the work area before the green flag was waved.

“I had to come to the work area because we had a spark plug wire come off,” he said. “We had to pull back in and put it back on.”

Bruce Jr. was relegated to the back of the field when he returned to the track.

“For what it was it ended up ok,” he said. “We had a really good race car, but the track was pretty narrow. To be able to do what we did I felt like it was a positive. It was one of those things were we fought through adversity all night long.”

Bruce Jr. maneuvered from last to a ninth-place result.

“We were able to bounce back on Friday after some adversity,” he said. “We just seemed to struggle with some minor issues.”

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park, where Bruce Jr. won his heat race from the pole position.

“Starting on the pole was a bad thing,” he said. “It was one of those deals where the track was real wide and there was a lot of passing in the heats. We needed more points to put us in the redraw.”

Bruce Jr. had the 11th-most points after the heat races, which lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

“I got a bad start and fell back a few spots,” he said. “Then I was able to slowly climb my way back up. We were running seventh on the last restart and missed the bottom going into turn one and let Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) around me.”

Bruce Jr. capped the night with an eight-place finish, which marked his 20th top 10 of the season.

He will return to action with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this Friday at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, S.D.
