The Voice of the Outlaws, Johnny Gibson, said it was one of the wildest things he’s ever seen in sprint car racing.
It was the first Outlaws show of the season on February 8, and I was leading the heat race. I was going into turns 3 & 4 when the torsion bar stop broke, and the bar and arm came off and got stuck in the wheels, keeping the car turning right. It sent me backwards, right out of the ballpark at 130mph. Volusia has a wall all the way around it except for a ten foot opening in back of the track. I went right though that small opening and ended up in the parking lot.
It was unfortunate that it happened, but it definitely could have been a lot worse. I’m thankful that it didn't turn out as bad as it could have.
